Plans were lodged with Braintree District Council in Essex on June 5 — two weeks after the star was “devastated” that 22 of his 25 restaurants were forced to close with the loss of 1,000 jobs.

Dad-of-five Jamie and wife Jools, 44, bought the country pile in January.

A source said: “People will be wondering if he could have ploughed more money and energy into the eateries rather than his home.”
