Jamie Oliver and Oprah Winfrey did a cooking demo on Instagram tonight – albeit with an ocean between them.

Welcome to 2020!

The TV chef, who is in lockdown with his family in Essex, connected with the California-based talk show queen at 6pm London time.

We had no idea they even knew each other – but that’s showbiz.

Then, with precious little weak WiFi interference –pay attention, Ricky Gervais – the pair cooked Singapore-style fried rice.

The adaptable recipe requires, as Jamie explains, any vegetables you can get your hands on, leftover cold rice or noodles, shrimp, chopped sausage and bacon.

Here’s a rough overview of the recipe:

1 Cut everything into small pieces
2 Heat a nonstick pan with olive oil until fairly hot
3 Cook the meat and the shrimp
4 Add veg – but don’t overload pan otherwise you’re not really stir-frying, says Jamie
5 Transfer to the ‘biggest pan you’ve got’ and add rice
6 Add soft herbs, a squeeze of lemon and a sauce, such as black bean or chilli

So, pretty straightforward.

Although, Oprah did seem to get confused at a couple of points – not least by Jamie’s accent.

Jamie’s livestream follows his well-received cooking demonstrations on Channel 4 of late.

His new show, named Jamie: Keep Cooking and Carry On, airs at 6.30pm on Channel 4 during the week.

In tonight’s episode, the dad-of-five showed viewers how to make pasta from scratch – and we’re quite amazed at how easy he made it look…
