Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United hold the key to Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes and hopes the Red Devils can inflict a vital defeat on Manchester City at Old Trafford.
Liverpool are neck and neck with Pep Guardiola’s defending champions at the top of the division and sit just one point behind City heading into Sunday’s crunch tie with Tottenham Hotspur.
Carragher believes Jurgen Klopp’s team have a better fixture list than City aside from the meeting with Spurs and another potential banana skin when they welcome Chelsea in a couple of weeks, and pinpointed City’s trip to Old Trafford next month as the match that could decide the title race.
‘I think it will go down to the wire,’ Carragher told Sky Sports.
‘Liverpool have the tougher fixtures over the next two or three weeks. If they come out the other side of that in the same position, they can force City to have to win at Old Trafford.
‘I think that’s what a lot of Liverpool fans are looking at – that game at Old Trafford.
‘I know Manchester United fans are desperate for Liverpool not to win the league but City have a great chance of winning the Quadruple which would topple United’s Treble from ’99.
‘It’s a big dilemma for United fans. Would you rather Liverpool win the league or City win the Quadruple? Hopefully a lot of them may change their opinions and try to get a decent result against City.’
