James May: Top Gear star speaks out over difficult car decision 'Don't love it anymore'

James May, 57, who is best known for hosting The Grand Tour with his former Top Gear companions Jeremy Clarkson, 60, and Richard Hammond, 50, has revealed the “difficult” move he has made behind the scenes. The motoring enthusiast said that his reasons for keeping his beloved Ferrari “weren’t enough”, and he has now ditched the motor from his collection.

James decided it was time to sell his red 308 GTB (Carburettor) through a dealer instead of selling his car himself.

In a new video for channel DriveTribe, the presenter was seen sitting in his Ferrari’s old parking space as he began: “Hello viewers. Now, I’m sitting in the space normally occupied by my Ferrari, but as you can see my Ferrari isn’t in this space because it’s gone.

“It’s gone for good. I’ve not actually sold it. I’ve given it to a dealer to sell on my behalf because that’s just easier than having people coming around and farting and what have you,” he joked, before opening up about his decision.

“But, quite a difficult thing to do.”

The ex Top Gear host went on to share: “But in the end, I didn’t really drive it very often and it’s become old tech.

“It’s become out of step with the spirit of the age and I just didn’t love it anymore.”

James explained to his viewers: “I like looking at it, it’s a fantastic looking thing and actually probably one of the prettiest Ferraris ever made, in my view.

“But that wasn’t really enough. It doesn’t translate into a good drive.”

A third went on to add: “James is a national treasure.”

It comes after he seemingly confused Wheeler Dealers presenter Mike Brewer in another video.

The latter was asked to review Richard, James and Jeremy’s go-to choice of cars for the same channel.

The car dealer began with James’ choice of motor, which he branded as a “weird” decision.

“Let’s talk about James’ first of all,” Mike began, after it was confirmed to be a white Porsche Carrera S.

“I would have thought that would have been more Richard’s car rather than James’ car, because he loves his Porsches.”

Mike continued: “Great car, the Carrera S. Love it. His is in white. Kind of looks weird that James drives a white Carrera S.

“It’s not what I expect him to be in. I’d expect him to drive something that has got velour and brown on the outside.”
