James Martin: Chef apologises to ‘gutted’ fans as protestors force him to cancel show

James Martin, 47, is set to host a one-off Supercar Sunday experience this weekend at his restaurant. However, the chef revealed yesterday it may now be in jeopardy due to a protest by Extinction Rebellion which will be taking place on the same day. The Saturday Morning host had been planning on bringing a collection of his classic and supercars to show fans while providing photo and book signing opportunities. However, addressing the issue in view of his 6,083 Instagram followers, James shared an apologetic statement.

The star’s message read: “I’m very sorry to report and advise customers and charities involved that a protest by Extinction Rebellion against climate change, planned to run from Friday through to Monday, at Deansgate and Peter Street directly by the Gt Northern Square means that our event on Sunday at James Martin Manchester will be affected.

“Police have advised that roads will be closed and that the presence of a car collection may escalate the protest due to its nature.”

The TV chef added: “Based on that advice we have decided not to host the car collection and charity collection outside although the lunch event will still go ahead.

“Further details to follow from the team to all customers with reservations. Sorry once again, James.”

He captioned the image: “Important information about Sunday’s event @jamesmartinmcr.”

Fans took to the comments section to share their disappointment about the cancellation of part of the event.

One person wrote: “I am so sorry to hear this, it must be very disappointing for you. I know it is for me! After the most depressing day in the history of the British democracy this is just the icing on the cake.”

Another added: “I get their point, but also get your disappointment. Perhaps next time xx.”

“Gutted. Booked our non refundable train tickets too now,” a third fan complained.

A fourth person replied: “No way what a shame, was really looking forward to it and hopefully getting a photo with you #gutted.”

James’ post about the disrupted event comes after he concerned fans with changes which will be taking place on his show.

The Saturday Morning presenter took to Twitter to share the update with his 648,000 followers.

James revealed changes were planned but neglected to divulge further details about the alterations.

He simply wrote: “We are changing bits for the new series.”

James’ followers quizzed the star on his claim in the comments, with one worrying: “So long as you’re still hosting that’s the main thing.”

Another fan queried: “Will you be doing another tour?”

Saturday Morning airs every week from 9.30am on ITV.
