Leicester City midfielder has been linked with a big money move to Manchester United, but former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged him to stay where he is.

The 22-year-old has been thoroughly impressive for the Foxes since arriving from Norwich for around £20m in 2018.

Maddison created more chances than any other player in the Premier League last season and has continued his fine form this campaign, scoring three goals in all competitions.

United are interested in the offensive-minded midfielder, and are optimistic over their chances of signing him, but Robinson insists that he is better off staying at the King Power Stadium as the Foxes are a better side than the Red Devils.

‘Leicester have got a real opportunity to finish above Manchester United in the table,’ the former Tottenham keeper told Sky Sports News.

‘They’re Premier League winners in recent times. They’ve got a good, young squad. They’ve got a very good manager.

‘The signs at Leicester at the moment are a lot more positive than they are at Old Trafford.

‘He’s got an opportunity to potentially play Champions League football with Leicester. He’s got an opportunity to be part of something that is growing, that is building.

‘Leicester at the moment look more than likely to finish higher than Manchester United and many others in the Premier League this year.’

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers was realistic on the future of one of his star players, admitting that Maddison would be very tempted would United come calling.

‘I’ve been fortunate that I’ve been at Liverpool where I understand the draw of that type of club,’ Rodgers said.

‘Liverpool and Manchester United are two of the biggest clubs by far.

‘There’s other great clubs, there’s big clubs, but those two, in terms of worldwide status, are above the other clubs.

‘There are other great clubs that are trying to catch them up but those two, in my experience, are a level above.

‘So whenever a player gets an opportunity to go to a club like that, to experience that type of pressure, that expectation – and of course there’ll be a financial side to it as well, let’s be real – that as a package in a short career is maybe something that is too hard to turn down.

‘I understand it, I get it.’
