James Gunn shares first teaser for 'The Suicide Squad'

The director will helm the upcoming DC movie

James Gunn has shared the first image teasing the upcoming The Suicide Squad movie.

The director, who previously was behind the camera for Marvel’s two Guardians Of The Galaxy movies, will helm the new DC film.

Posting on his Instagram story, Gunn shared a photo of himself working on a sketch. “My beautiful storyboards are back,” he wrote, along with the hashtag #TheSuicideSquad and three question marks and an arrow pointing at the drawing.

The drawing in the photo is too faint to make out what is in it, but fans on Reddit have speculated it shows King Shark with someone’s leg in his mouth.

Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney are already confirmed to appear in The Suicide Squad, reprising their roles of Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang respectively. It was recently reported that Idris Elba had joined the cast but would play a new character instead of taking over from Will Smith as Deadshot as speculated. Former wrestler John Cena is also rumoured to appear as Peacemaker.

The Suicide Squad will be released in cinemas on August 6, 2021 in the US. There is no confirmed UK release date at present.

Meanwhile, Gunn will also direct Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 after he was reinstated by Marvel last month. The director was fired from the project in July 2018 after old tweets making light of paedophilia and rape resurfaced online.

A number of the franchise’s cast, including Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, and Zoe Saldana, signed an open letter last year calling for Gunn’s reinstatement. When sharing the letter, Pratt said: “Although I don’t support James Gunn’s inappropriate jokes from years ago, he is a good man.”
