James Corden’s wife Julia Carey has never seen Gavin and Stacey and we’re shaken to the core

Gavin and Stacey may be one of the defining moments in James Corden’s career (and, let’s face it, British TV), but that hasn’t stopped Julia Carey, the actor’s wife, not even catching one episode.

As Pam would say, ‘Oh my Christ!’

The actor and presenter recently spoke out about the show, and how his wife is left puzzled by obsessive fans.

‘There is a level of ownership around my character in Gavin and Stacey,’ the star explained to David Tennant on his podcast David Tennant Does A Podcast With.

‘My wife to this day who has never watched an episode of Gavin and Stacey is constantly taken aback by the level of “Smithy, let’s get a beer.”‘

‘I love they feel such an affection, but at the same time it’s sort of strange if you’re with your children,’ the 40-year-old pointed out.

‘It’s a funny world, entertainment. If an alien came down and they had to take a reading on planet Earth by just watching films or TV, they would imagine that if you are chubby, or fat, or big, you never really fall in love, you never have sex, certainly no one really ever finds you attractive,’ he explained.

He reasoned that, on Gavin and Stacey, Smithy has a depth of character that was often hard to find in the supporting roles.

James co-wrote and starred in the show with Ruth Jones from 2007 to 2010, giving us iconic characters like Larry Lamb’s Mick, Rob Brydon’s Uncle Bryn, and Sheridan Smith’s Rudi.
