James Corden addresses Met Gala outfit comments: 'Let's not get carried away'

James Corden, 43, graced the Met Gala 2021 red carpet with his wife Julia Carey, on Monday night at the iconic event in New York City. But despite the theme celebrating In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, the Gavin and Stacey actor opted for a simple – yet stylish – black tuxedo, an outfit choice that was criticised by some viewers on social media.

His critics claimed he “hadn’t tried” to stick with this year’s chosen theme, and even co-host Keke Palmer couldn’t help but poke fun at The Late Late Show presenter during his backstage interview on the Vogue Livestream.

Nevertheless, he looked dapper as he stood confidently in the Gucci tux, which he paired with a white shirt and matching black waistcoat.

Julia also wowed in a plunging sequinned gown by the Italian fashion house, as the pair smiled for the cameras.

As they moved up the staircase, James branched off to chat to Keke who asked him about his outfit for the night.

Another joked: “Wow another stunning red carpet look from James Corden.”

“Could James Corden have chosen something more inventive?” a third wondered.

While a fourth penned: “Black tux’s should be banned from a themed event!”
