James Charles has admitted he’s ‘trying his best to smile’ after facing backlash over his tour prices, and his drama with fellow beauty guru Tati Westbrook.

It’s all been kicking off.

The beauty YouTuber posted a snap of himself beaming away on Twitter, captioning the picture: ‘tryin my best to smile :).’

His tweet followed another reference to the backlash, which simply read: ‘I’m okay.’

The 19-year-old recently faced major criticism following the release of tickets to his Sisters tour, some of which were priced at $500.

Later apologising for the prices, he added more perks to the higher value tickets, tweeting: ‘UPDATED TICKET INFORMATION ? Hopefully this answers a lot of questions, comments, and concerns. I am sorry that we disappointed many of you. We have worked very hard to put this tour together and want it to be accessible for everyone & an amazing experience no matter the ticket.

‘To clarify, i begged my team to change prices but because of contracts with the venues, it was not possible. instead, i made sure meet & greet was more accessible and ensured that the highest ticket was worth the price. i’m sorry i can’t make everyone happy, i’m trying my best [sic].’

However, many fans were still left unimpressed with the ticket prices left unchanged, with one replying: ‘But that doesn’t change the fact that they’re still $500.’

And it’s not the only drama James has faced recently, after he and fellow beauty guru Tati Westbrook had a very public falling out after the 19-year-old promoted Sugar Bear Hair vitamins – a direct competitor to Tati’s line of supplements.

Tati tearfully explained that she felt ‘really used’, adding to fans: ‘Friends should support one another, that’s how it should be.

‘I’m just having one of those days where it’s smacked in my face what’s what and having to take a look at things and realise what they are, and not wanting to realise what they are.’

James later apologised in an Instagram Stories post, claiming he didn’t accept money for the advert, saying: ‘I want to publicly apologise to my close friend Tati. She has been like a mother to me since my first days in this industry and has given me more love, support, resources, and advice than I could ever ask for.

He added: ‘As most of you know, Tati has a vitamin brand which I take on a daily basis, but in the moment, I did not think about the competition, which was a major oversight. I’ve supported Tati both online and off like she has done for me and Iam devastated that I hurt someone that I truly love and have endless respect for.’

James currently boasts a following of over 16 million on YouTube.
