James Bond: Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan back female 007 after No Time To Die

From Ian Fleming’s classic novels through six official incarnations, James Bond 007 has always been a man. Of course, this shouldn’t be surprising seeing as the author created a male character. However, in recent years there’s been a trend in gender-swapping roles from the Ghostbusters and Ocean’s 11 to Doctor Who. James Bond has now entered this debate, with some fans calling for the next actor to play the spy to be a woman, something that both Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan have backed over the weekend.

At the time, Craig was slammed by Piers Morgan for the comment, which the Good Morning Britain host has done again following the actor’s latest comments/

The journalist tweeted over the weekend: “Vote for sanity. #KeepBondAMan.”

Meanwhile, Morgan has also responded to former Bond Pierce Brosnan, who also backs a female 007 taking over after Craig’s in No Time To Die.

He tweeted: “Oh FFS… no. Or I will demand the next Wonder Woman is a man.”

Brosnan made his views known at the Deauville Film Festival, where he was collecting a career honour.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Brosnan said: “Yes! I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there.

“I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen with the [current Bond producers] Broccolis. I don’t think that is going to happen under their watch.”

Brosnan was right to say this, as Barbara Broccoli confirmed at the Bond 25 live reveal that Bond would remain male after Craig, but she’s perfectly open to non-white actors taking on the role.

No Time To Die will be released in UK cinemas on April 3, 2020.
