Jameela Jamil has weighed in on the media storm surrounding Khloé Kardashian, whose team recently took down an unedited, natural-looking photo of the reality star, claiming it was posted without permission.
“We are all f***ed when we buy into diet culture,” The Good Place actor wrote on Instagram. “Even though I remain furious at how much [the Kardashians] perpetuates fat-phobia and impossible beauty standards… I TOTALLY see why they’re so obsessed with presenting as whatever society’s latest ideal of ‘perfect’ is. Because they were harassed and bullied and scrutinised to within an inch of their lives.”
Jamil posted her comment after Kardashian wrote a note explaining her perspective over the natural-looking picture that has been the topic of extensive discussion.
“In truth, the pressure, constant ridicule and judgment my entire life to be perfect and to meet other’s standards of how I should look has been too much to bear,” Kardashian wrote.
Kardashian also wrote in her post that she sees filters and photo editing similarly to makeup or manicures, ie, another way to “present myself to the world the way I want to be seen”.

“It’s exactly what I will continue to do unapologetically,” she continued. “My body, my image and how I choose to look and what I want to share is my choice. It’s not for anyone to decide or judge what it acceptable or not anymore.”
For her part, Jamil said the scrutiny Kardashian faces on a daily basis is “unacceptable” and “now would be a great time to throw diet culture in the f*** it bucket, stop editing photos, admit to the help you get to look how you do, and be transparent with your fans.
“We cannot keep treating ourselves and each other like this. What’s happening to her isn’t funny. It’s sad for everyone,” Jamil added on Instagram. “May a good thing that comes from it be that at least young girls can breathe knowing they’re trying to live up to fake standards, and give themselves a break when they take holiday photos. And may Khloé maybe start to post more unedited photos and be a role model for self-acceptance.”
According to a report by Page Six, many handles that reposted Kardashian’s image and praised it as “beautiful” have since received “legal threats” calling for its removal, as the photograph was apparently not approved by Kardashian.
Tracy Romulus, chief marketing officer for KKW Brands, said in a statement: “The colour edited photo was taken of Khloé during a private family gathering and posted to social media without permission by mistake by an assistant.”
He added: “Khloé looks beautiful but it is within the right of the copyright owner to not want an image not intended to be published taken down.”
