Jadon Sancho has been tipped to head to Manchester United, however, they could struggle to sign the winger if they can’t offer him Champions League football. The Red Devils have identified the 19-year-old as their top transfer target ahead of the summer window. The winger fits in with United’s new philosophy of signing young, British talent.
It’s claimed United could end up paying over £100m for the England international at the end of the season.
However, according to The Athletic, a lack of Champions League football could cost them in their pursuit of Sancho.
They say United can afford to sign the winger but they may struggle to land him without Champions League football.
United are now three points behind Chelsea in fourth after their 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Monday night as the race to finish in the top four heats up.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the Red Devils are now in the hunt for a Champions League spot.
“We keep another clean sheet, four on the bounce now, we’re getting better defensively,” he told Sky Sports.
“Two very good goals, very happy with them. I think we were a bit leggy, sometimes it takes time to blow the cobwebs out, but it was better second half, we looked a bit cumbersome first half.
“Some good individual performances at times, but in the first half we were too negative, played it back too many times and made technical errors we don’t normally.
“The goal was fantastic. Aaron has been working on his crossing, Anthony has been told X amount of times to get into the box – we had almost like an ongoing joke with Harry and his headers, it was about time!
“You want the right decisions to be made and we’re happy they are made. They weren’t made without that help, and it’s been shown a few times this year we’ve needed that help.
“I think it looks like a push on Fred, and Harry, when he was pulled over, I wouldn’t think that’s a red card. I think he’s just protecting himself with the lad over him.
“It gives us confidence and a chance [of finishing in the top four], it’s going to be a tight race, we’re not going to get any help from anyone – we’re playing tonight and we’re playing on Thursday.
“I cannot understand for the life of me why we didn’t play on Saturday. But we’ll just have to dust ourselves down and get going again.”
