'It's farcical' – Frank Field tears apart Remain MPs over plan to frustrate Brexit

Frank Field quit the Labour Party in August 2018 to become an independent MP, having been the MP for Birkenhead since 1979. Despite almost 40 years as a Labour Party MP Mr Field strongly opposes their current position on Brexit. Speaking to talkRADIO regarding the withdrawal agreement he said: “We have got to get proper timing for that.

“We don’t want timing for people who will use it not to critically examine the bill but to get those hare-brained schemes of a second referendum.

“This proposal comes only I think from the people who support it.

“From people who are committed Remainers very largely, who voted against implementing the previous referendum decision.

“Who think we should say to them, given that you didn’t accept the previous decision you are now telling us to have another referendum.”

Mr Field continued: “Is there any likelihood you will support that decision if you don’t like it?

“For that group it is farcical to keep going on after denying the legitimacy of the first referendum to say we should have a second one.”

Host Julia Hartley-Brewer joked: “I say best of five, lets just keep doing it every year.”

Yesterday Boris Johnson was told by Express.co.uk readers to take the UK out of the European Union with a no deal Brexit on October 31st.

The European Council has today agreed to a further Brexit extension until 31st January 2020.

The extension will be terminated early if Boris Johnson succeeds in getting his Withdrawal and Implementation Bill approved by Parliament before then.

Mr Johnson is hoping to force a general election after submitting a motion today – but needs a two-thirds majority, meaning Mr Corbyn’s support for such a move is crucial.

A separate source also suggested a three-month delay was imminent, saying it was “most likely” to be agreed today.
