Rob McElhenney proved to be Wales’ lucky charm as he watched them take on Turkey at Euro 2020.

The It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia actor recently took over Welsh football club Wrexham AFC with pal Ryan Reynolds, and revealed he would be ‘glued to his TV’ to cheer the national team on.

Taking to Twitter, he shared a tweet written in Welsh, celebrating the power of football.

‘This time last year I hardly watched football and knew very little about Wales,’ a translation of the post said.

‘Today, I’ll be glued to my TV and scream Wales forever! The power of sport is tremendous. The power of Wales is poetic.’

Well, he’s not wrong.

Wales eventually saw off Turkey, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Aaron Ramsey and Connor Roberts, with the team almost securing their place in the knockout stages.

The star officially completed his takeover of Wrexham AFC, along with Ryan Reynolds, earlier this year, confirming their news in a joint statement in February.

‘It is a special day for the two of us to become the latest stewards in the long and storied history of Wrexham AFC,’ they told fans.

‘Together with the players, the staff, the fans, and the local community, we can now pursue our goal to grow the team and return it to the EFL in front of increased attendances, and in an improved stadium, while making a positive difference to the wider community in Wrexham.

‘Wrexham AFC is only in a position to thrive because of the incredible efforts of the Wrexham Supporters Trust.

‘Their members are a fitting reflection of the integrity and spirit of the town and they will always have an important role at the club.’

They also vowed to protect the heritage of Wrexham AFC, while also growing the exposure of the club around the world and creating a winning culture.

‘2020 was a difficult year and there are likely to be further public health challenges in the months ahead,’ they added. ‘But we hope to be cheering the team on from the stands as soon as it’s safe to do so in 2021.’

Despite the move, Ryan recently announced that he had never met Rob in real life – but does speak to him every single day.

In a candid chat with Men’s Health, the Deadpool star confessed: ‘We’ve never met, which is the weirdest thing, because we Zoom and text every day.

‘We’re kinda like work spouses – everything we’ve done has happened during the pandemic.

‘It was us not just purchasing a football club in the national league, but really working on a community that surrounds that club and getting involved in the community around that club and growing that. And that’s the thing that really hooked me.’
