It looks as if a documentary all about Rihanna could be hitting Amazon in the near future.

The company is said to have paid $25 million (£19million) for the worldwide rights for the upcoming untitled film.

Filmmaker Peter Berg, who directed Rihanna’s previous film Battleship, has directed the project, which will detail the life and successes throughout the singer’s career.

Peter is said to have worked on the film for years and reportedly had over 1,2000 hours of footage to choose from to showcase Riri’s ‘sense of humour, work ethics, family and love’ for the documentary.

The 55–year-old has described the hitmaker as ‘an extraordinary young woman’, and the documentary is set to be a ‘pretty comprehensive profile’ of her career, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

‘I think she’s an extraordinary young woman and it really is kind of a pretty comprehensive profile of what goes into making her this talent that she is.

‘The work ethic, the talent, luck, the hustle, the vision.’

It comes after Apple TV+ was said to have paid the same sum last week for a documentary on fellow singer Billie Eilish, which is said to be brought to the streaming service in the new year.

The film, which has already been shot, has been directed by RJ Cutler, and gives fans access to the singer’s private moments with family, according to Deadline.

And if that wasn’t enough – it was also officially confirmed by Netflix that a documentary about Taylor Swift, titled Miss Americana, will be available for streaming on their service in early 2020, following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on 2020.

Emmy winner Lana Wilson has helped to direct the movie, which has been described as a ‘raw and emotionally revealing look at one of the most iconic artists of our times.’

Viewers will also get the chance to look at Taylor’s ‘transformational period in her life as she learns to embrace her role not only as a songwriter and performer, but as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice.’

So in the meantime, these Billie and Taylor documentaries should help to keep Rihanna fans occupied while they wait for the Umbrella singer’s film.
