Is this the Nintendo Switch Mini? First leaked images appear online

Assuming it’s not a fake, an image of a protective covering may be the first proof that a new, smaller and cheaper, Switch console is real.

Despite there being no mention of it at E3, there have been rumours for months now that Nintendo is working on two new models of Switch: a smaller, portable-only version and a new, slightly more powerful edition.

There’s never been any evidence of either but, if it’s not a fake, the above image may be the first evidence that the Switch Mini is real.

It’s purportedly a ‘silicon glove’ for what the box describes as a ‘Mini Switch’, but other than company Big Ben being a legit third party peripheral seller there’s little more that can be discerned from the photo.

The source is German website WinFuture, which names only a ‘reliable source’ as an explanation of where the image came from.

The second, rendered, image is obviously taken from the front of the box but it’s a much higher resolution than the box photo, so whether it’s a separate leak or something the source created themselves we’re not sure.

Whether it’s fake or not, it’s not going to stop rumours that both new models of console are real, with many seemingly adamant that at least one of them will be out this year.

If that’s true, there’s no obvious reason why Nintendo wouldn’t have announced it at E3, which in turn makes it impossible to guess when it might otherwise be unveiled.

However, Nintendo does have a very busy games schedule in the second half of the year, which could be seen as an opportunity to offer new hardware models – especially ahead of Christmas.
