Italy has confirmed more than 229 cases of coronavirus, with seven people dying from the virus in just four days.

The UK government have advised anyone who has gone north of Pisa to self-isolate themselves in the UK, with Health Secretary Matt Hancock telling BBC Breakfast that they should “self-isolate whether or not they have symptoms”.

The Foreign Office has issued new travel advice for British travellers, with 10 regions being locked down.

They said in a statement online: “There is an ongoing outbreak of coronavirus in China and elsewhere, including Italy.

“The government of Italy has introduced extraordinary measures that allow regions to implement civil protection measures in response to coronavirus.

“This includes the isolation of 10 small towns in Lombardy and one in Veneto. The regions of Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Piemonte and Emilia Romagna have implemented measures including the suspension of public or private events, the suspension of schools and higher education and the suspension on the opening of museums and cultural institutions for seven days.”

Venice Carnival was forced to end early following the travel restrictions, museums have been closed until further notice and the government is planning to increase health checks on gondolas and public transport across the city.

Fashion designer Giorgio Armani streamed his show at Milan Fashion Week instead of allowing visitors to watch the catwalk due to coronavirus fears, and the Duomo cathedral in Milan has been closed.

A video shows tourists having their temperatures at Venice Airport, as well as at Milan Airport, although flights from the UK have not been affected.

EasyJet confirmed that they are not cancelling flights on social media, with concerned tourists having to pay a change fee if they want to move their flights.

Ryanair confirmed flights were continuing as normal as well, according to the Irish Times.
