All eyes are on Adele right now as rumours reach fever pitch she may be about to drop her long-awaited fourth studio album.

Touted to be titled 30, which riffs on her previous age-themed albums, 19, 21 and 25, speculation has ramped up this week after the singer returned to Twitter for the first time since January, after wiping her social media profile pics and replacing them with a moody, teal image.

Many have wondered whether this was her way of signalling a new era reveal.

That and her old website has been scrubbed, and now instead offers fans a link to sign up and receive more information.

So, what do we know about this rumoured album, eh?

Is Adele releasing a new album in 2021?

It’s long been suggested the Hello hitmaker would be returning to our ears with fresh tunes this year.

Recent reports have claimed she’s planning a Christmas charts comeback via a November album release and an internationally streamed Las Vegas show.

Canadian radio presenter Mauler also posted a now-deleted tweet that read ‘New Adele. This week’ last Wednesday. While we’re still waiting with bated breath to see if such a prophecy will come to fruition before this week is out, it’s got everyone on the edge of their seats.

However, the biggest hint was to come.

Mysterious projections reading ’30’ have popped up in locations worldwide including the US, France, Italy and Ireland, with everybody convinced that the queen of ballads is about to make her comeback.

While Adele hasn’t confirmed the 30 campaign is linked to her – but really, who else could it be? – teamed with various reports of an impending release and her social media overhaul (and Twitter return), we’re watching this space.

The star herself, nor her team, are yet to publicly confirm we’ll be getting new Adele music in 2021, however during her appearance as host on Saturday Night Live in October last year, the singer gave an update on how her new album was coming along.

We have a new profile picture, and zero followers – a new era?

She told the audience in her opening monologue: ‘I know there’s been a lot of chatter about me just being a host, I’ve seen all of it like, “Why isn’t she the musical guest?” and stuff like that, and there’s a couple of reasons.

‘My album’s not finished and I’m also too scared to do both.

‘I would rather just put on some wigs – and this is all mine by the way – have a glass of wine or six and just see what happens.’

She had previously claimed her album would be with us in September last year, however the Covid pandemic scuppered such release plans and her manager Jonathan Dickins said ‘it will be ready when it’s ready’.

What did Adele post on social media?

Adding fuel to the fire (or setting fire to the rain, we don’t know) Adele got people speculating hardcore she was about to drop new music when she returned to her Twitter page after a lengthy hiatus.

As Twitter said hello to ‘literally everyone’ who had migrated to the app, after Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram all crashed on Monday, Adele replied not with ‘Hello’, but with: ‘Hiya babes’, and it was the shot of endorphins we needed.

Is this a sign she’s getting the cogs turning for an imminent musical announcement?

The fifteen-time Grammy Award winner saw her previous albums all soar to number one o the charts in the UK and around the world, and in both 2012 and 2016 she was named songwriter of the year at the Ivor Novello Awards.

She also broke all global attendance records with her last tour in summer 2017.

So safe to say her album – if it’s on its way – is likely to receive a warm reception.
