Ireland suffers worst ever Eurovision result as full semi-final breakdown is revealed

The full breakdown of all the Eurovision Song Contest results has arrived, and it makes for juicy reading.

Or, if you’re from Ireland, pretty grim reading.

Ireland received its lowest ever score in Eurovision history, as Sarah McTernan earned just 16 points in the semi-final.

Sarah’s fifties diner staging for her song 22 seemingly didn’t impress Europe’s viewers or their juries, as she languished at 18th place in the second semi-final.

Her point tally is six points less than the result achieved by Dustin The Turkey and the puppet’s song Irelande Douze Pointe in 2008, which also failed to qualify.

Elsewhere in the second semi, Austria’s Paenda didn’t receive a single public vote for her song Limits, while Lithuania’s Jurji Veklenko and his song Run With The Lions was beaten to a spot in the final by just one point by Leonora of Denmark.

Unsurprisingly, eventual final winners The Netherlands topped the leaderboard in semi-final two, earning a whopping 280 points. Duncan Laurence was followed by North Macedonia, Sweden, Switzerland and Azerbaijan.

Over in the first semi-final, it was Kate Miller-Heidke of Australia who topped the scores with her song Zero Gravity – although she went on to finish ninth in the final.

Belarus’s ZENA made it into the final by just two points, with Poland’s Tulia narrowly landing in 11th place.

Somewhat surprisingly, the weakest song in this semi-final was from international superstar DJ Darude, whose song Look Away received just 23 points.

In the final, Sweden’s John Lundvik won the jury vote with 239 points, but was bumped down to sixth place after receiving 93 points from the public.

Meanwhile, Norway scored just 47 points from the jury vote, but rocketed to fifth place after topping the public vote with 291 points.

The Netherlands’ Duncan Laurence didn’t top either vote but his combined vote of 261 from the public and 231 from the jury ensured his win.

Sadly, the public were not feeling the United Kingdom’s entry Bigger Than Us by Michael Rice – with only Ireland giving any points in the public vote. These three points, in addition to the jury awarding Michael 13 points, found the 21-year-old in last place on the leaderboard.
