iPhone 11 users will be inundated with warnings if they replace their displays with a third-party

Apple warns iPhone 11 users not to replace their displays using a third-party or it will inundate them warnings

  • Third-party display repairs for the iPohne 11 are being shunned by Apple
  • The company says it could interfere with other features of the phone
  • Apple says that it will shower users with warnings if they don’t adhere
  • The policy follows a similar one that warned against unsactioned battery fixes

Apple says that users who replace their iPhone 11 displays with third parties will be buried in warnings.

In a support document for the newly release phone, Apple cautions customers against having their displays repaired or replace by third-party companies citing several potentially adverse outcomes like loss of certain features, brightness, and loss of some touch-screen functionality.

To hammer the point home, Apple says customers who decided to have their phone repaired by a non-certified  technician will be reminded by some rather persistent notifications.

‘You will see a notification on your Lock screen for the first 4 days that you use your device and in the Settings app for 15 days. After that period, you can find the notification by going to Settings > General > About,’ said the company.

As noted by The Verge, Apple also alludes to the possibility that it will keep close track of those who are served warnings regarding their displays, meaning it could possibly affect Apple’s willingness to fix other issues in the future.

‘You might see an additional notification that says, “Apple has updated the device information for this iPhone.” This means that Apple has updated the device information maintained for your iPhone for service needs, safety analysis, and to improve future products,’ says the company in the support document.

Apple’s Issues with uncertified display repairs mirror a recent effort by the company to deter third-party battery replacements.

Unlike fixing a display, however, battery replacements present a very real safety risk, as phones could potentially overheat and in the worst case, catch fire.

Despite recent warnings against third-party repairs, Apple has slowly started to warm to the idea of extending its constellation of Apple-certified services.

Last month, the company expanded a repair program that will provide more independent phone repair stores with ‘the same genuine parts, tools, training, repair manuals and diagnostics as its Apple Authorized Service Providers.’

As long as the store has a certified Apple technician, they will be able to join its program for free, meaning nearly any and all third-party repair spot could now be allowed to provide iPhone repairs — at least for older models.

The program will be confined only to iPhones that are out of warranty meaning newer Apple products will still have to be sent back to the company for repair.
