Introducing The Glory Society, a New Worker Cooperative for Video Games

Two members from the team that made Night in the Woods, Bethany Hockenberry and Scott Benson, along with artist and musician Wren Farren, have founded a new worker cooperative called The Glory Society. The announcement comes via Tweet from the newly established Twitter account. A worker cooperative, according to their Twitter, “basically means we are all co-owners of our studio and what we create, and we make decisions as a group, as equals. No bosses needed!”

The founding members include Bethany Hockenberry, Scott Benson, and Wren Farren. Bethany Hockenberry and Scott Benson were two of a three-person team responsible for the highly regarded 2017 Night in the Woods. Bethany Hockenberry is credited as a writer and designer of the game, while Scott Benson was “co-creator, co-director, writer, artist, and animator” for NITW, according to a Tweet by The Glory Society. Wren Farren is an artist and cartoonist, as well as a musician, creating ambient music absolutely perfect for games. Per The Glory Society website, Hockenberry is listed as “Writer / Researcher,” Benson as “Creative Director / Writer” and Farren as “Art Director / Composer.”

The trio currently has two projects in the works, but have not released details on them as of yet. According to the website, they will announce the upcoming projects “when we’re good and ready.” After the success of Night in the Woods, along with the art style of Farren, it’s clear that something special is in the works. Without any red tape created by the bureaucracy of a larger studio, any and all games released by the Society will be a clear representation of the trinity’s creative vision. You can stay up to date on the team’s projects by following them on Twitter or subscribing to the newsletter on their website.
