A deal to take Ashley Young to Inter Milan from Manchester United could be done in the coming hours, according to CEO of the Serie A side, Beppe Marotta.

Young has turned down a new contract offer from the Red Devils, with his current deal expiring in the summer, and is looking to push through a move to Inter this month, with no intention of extending at Old Trafford.

The 34-year-old has made 12 Premier League appearances for United this season, but he now sees his playing time as limited, not being first choice in any position at the club.

He believes he will have more opportunity to get on the field in Milan, and will see this as the last chance in his career to make such a move.

Marotta was asked about both Inter’s move for Young and AC Milan potentially signing Matteo Politano from their local rivals during the transfer window.

‘Politano and Young? At the moment, there are many rumours, we are all active,’ said Marotta via CalcioMercato.

‘In general, you know very well that what hasn’t already been done can be done tonight.’

It looks like the switch to the San Siro is imminent for the England international, but Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played down any exits from Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

‘Tonight’s not the night to talk about players leaving because we need the players that we have in the squad,’ the Norwegian said after defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

‘And we’ve got a few months left of this season, we can’t weaken ourselves we need to strengthen ourselves if any movement is going to happen.’

Asked if the move will happen in the summer, Solskjaer said: ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about, you’ve got to ask Ash.

‘For me it’s about focusing on the next game and tonight.’
