  • FutureGen will include “leading industry figures,” with educational events hosted by Intel and NSE, as well as experience at an ESL event.

Intel, ESL, and National Student Esports (NSE) have partnered to launch Intel FutureGen, a program designed to help identify promising talent amongst United Kingdom university students and provide them with esports industry skills.

Ten total students will be chosen from the pool of applicants—who must be full-time students at a UK university—with a series of development events hosted by Intel and NSE during the second semester of the current school year.

The program will also include experience at an ESL event, and culminate in May 2020. According to a release, the FutureGen program will include “unparalleled access to leading industry figures” as students receive esports-centric training and experience.

In 2018, Intel and ESL partnered to discover and enrich a UK student who aimed to become an esports commentator, with winner TJ Phillips provided the opportunity to conduct interviews at the EGX 2018 gaming expo and host an esports broadcast at the event. This year’s FutureGen program adds NSE as a partner for a much larger group of prospective esports talent.

“Here at Intel, we have always been committed to the future of esports, and that means supporting the industry from the ground up, engaging with grassroots leagues, and nurturing new talent,” said Intel UK Gaming and Esports Lead Scott Gillingham, in a release. “Esports talent isn’t just limited to players, which is why, following a successful program in 2018, Intel is proud to launch Intel FutureGen for 2019 with NSE and ESL. We wanted to go bigger and better this year, so that we can continue to support talent at a university level and provide opportunities for young people with aspirations in esports.”

In July, Intel was announced as a long-term headline sponsor for National Student Esports’ British University Esports Championship (BUEC). Intel and ESL, meanwhile, have been longtime partners via the Intel Extreme Masters competition, and are also collaborating on the upcoming Intel World Open in partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
