Instagram launches donation stickers for stories – here’s how to add one to yours

Today, Instagram has announced it’s adding a new feature to its Storiesdonation stickers.

The stickers will be available to eligible nonprofits and their supporters to create a 24-hour fundraiser on Instagram by using the sticker on their stories.

The eligible nonprofits will be able to create an Instagram story, add the donation sticker and start raising money for the cause with 100 per cent of the money raised going directly to the charity.

Already, Jameela Jamils’s @I_Weigh Instagram page has posted a donation link for Mermaids UK – a charity supporting transgender and gender variant children in the UK. Olympic diver Tom Daley has also posted a charitable sticker to his Story asking followers to donate to The Brain Tumour Charity.

Aibhinn Kelleher, Strategic Partnerships Manager, Social Impact team at Facebook EMEA said in a statement: “All over the world people are using Instagram to raise awareness of the causes that matter to them. Now with donation stickers for Instagram Stories, people have a really easy way to support these causes, while also directly raising money.

“As well as helping organisations reach new audiences, with 100 per cent of all money raised going straight to the organisation, the Instagram donation sticker should be a valuable tool for the charity sector. We can’t wait to see the creative ways that people use Instagram to support the causes they care about.”

How to add a donation sticker to your story

All you need to do to donate is click on the donation sticker (Instagram)

It’s not just charities who can add stickers to their stories, everyone can add a donation sticker for their favourite charity to their Story with all proceeds going directly back to that charity.

A quick look at the new feature shows you can add stickers for Cancer Research UK, Dogs Trust, Mental Health Foundation, Marie Curie UK and The British Heart Foundation among others.

To add a charities sticker to your Story, all you need to do is swipe to your camera on Instagram and take or select an image. Tap the smiley face sticker icon on the top right and choose the donation sticker.

From there you can select a non-profit organisation, type the name of your fundraiser into the sticker and add it to your Story. Friends and followers can then donate to the charity through your Story.

This latest addition to Stories is the next step in modernising charitable donations and will reach the 24 million Instagram users in the UK – nearly 42 per cent of the UK’s population. Last year, GoodBox was the tech start-up behind the contactless donation points across London taking donations for the Mayor of London’s winter homelessness campaign, helping to make it easier for millennials to donate in an increasingly cashless society.
