Instagram is down AGAIN and some users think the app is rolling out the update to get rid of likes 

Users across the globe have reported that Instagram is down.

Complaints about the app surfaced Wednesday afternoon with Europe and the US being affected the most.

Although there is not a clear answer to why the social media site is experiencing problems, some users suggest that the app is rolling out an update to get rid of likes.  

Approximately 83 percent of users have experiencing issues with News Feed, nine percent with Stories and six percent are having trouble logging in to their account.

Most of the users sharing reports on Downdector are from the US including New York, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Texas.

However, reports from Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Italy are also listed on the site.

And more than one user has pointed a finger at the new update that will remove likes from the app.

Others have shared their frustration at the constant issues they have experienced with the app lately.

Many Instagram members have also flocked to Twitter to voice concerns.

The count is just over 1,143, but new complaints are being posted on Downdetector every few seconds – however, Twitter is also being flooded with reports of issues – with some frustrated at how many issues Instagram has had lately

One users shared: ‘Are you gonna fix this bug in 2019 or should we wait till 2020?”

Another posted: ‘Is Instagram down again?! How will I get my validation from strangers?’

Instagram first announced it would experiment with hiding likes in Canada, Japan, Ireland, Italy, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand in April of this year.

However, last month the social media site decided to make the test a permanent feature and planned to roll it out globally soon.

One users shared: ‘Are you gonna fix this bug in 2019 or should we wait till 2020?” Another posted: ‘Is Instagram down again?! How will I get my validation from strangers?

Instagram decided to make hide likes for all of its users and some experiencing issues think the next update will do just that  

The platform says it is part of an effort to make users feel happier and less self-conscious online amid concerns social media can contribute to low self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy in young people.

‘It’s about young people. The idea is to depressurize Instagram, make it less of a competition, give people more space to focus on connecting with people they love and things that inspire them,’ said Instagram Head Adam Mosseri in an interview with Wired.

‘We have to see how it affects how people feel about the platform, how it affects how people use the platform, how it affects the creator ecosystem.’
