Prince William and Kate Middleton were spotted mingling with the biggest names in the film industry at the EE British Academy Film Awards.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appeared beaming as they caught up with winners, including Renee Zellweger, Joaquin Phoenix and director Sam Mendes, on stage at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Sunday evening.

Kate, 38, was all smiles as she congratulated Renee on her best actress win for her performance as Judy Garland in Judy.

The two women appeared relaxed, with Kate even placing her hand on Renee’s shoulder, as they giggled with one another.

Meanwhile, husband William, 37, looked deep in conversation with the Joker star Joaquin.

The pair no doubt had a lot to catch up on, with Joaquin, 45, bagging the best actor award for the critically-acclaimed drama flick just moments before.

Both Joaquin and William highlighted the importance of diversity in their Baftas speeches earlier on in the night.

The royals soon moved on to talk to Laura Dern, who seemed delighted for a chinwag with a rather animated-looking Kate.

This year marks Wills’s tenth year as president of Bafta, with him presenting and introducing the Fellowship, which is Bafta’s highest accolade to film producer Kathleen Kennedy on the night.

Earlier on in the evening, the royal couple found the funny side of a certain joke relating to Prince Harry’s controversial move to the US.

Brad Pitt poked fun at the situation during his acceptance speech for his role in Quentin Tarantino’s latest Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood.

Co-star Margot Robbie, who accepted the award on his behalf, read from Brad’s note which said: ‘He is gonna name this Harry because he is really excited about bringing this back to the States with him.’

Despite the awkward jibe, Kate and Wills appeared to take the joke well as they were photographed laughing and clapping in the audience.
