DAVE Grohl is known as rock’s squeaky clean Mr Nice Guy, but fans have been floored after he revealed he has fathered a love child.
It’s just the latest chapter in the the Nirvana drummer turned Foo Fighters singer‘s surprisingly chaotic love life, which has left a string of broken hearts along the way.
It is alleged that Dave, 55, cheated on his first wife Jennifer Youngblood and snowboarder Tina Basich.
It’s also been reported that he ditched Veruca Salt singer Louise Post because he was infatuated with Hollywood star Winona Ryder.
On Tuesday the father-of-three shocked his fans by announcing on Instagram that “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage.”
In countless interviews the music legend has spoken adoringly about his 21-year marriage to model Jordyn Blum and children, including first child Violet, 18.
Dave has said: “Jordyn and Violet are anchors that keep me from completely disappearing.”
The devoted dad once flew back and forth from a gig in Adelaide, Australia, to attend a dance with Violet and Harper, 15, in California.
It is a marked departure from his own troubled childhood, which saw him raised by his mother after his parents divorced when he was aged six.
Here we look at the rocky relationships the star – said to be worth over $200million – has navigated on his way to the top.
Jordyn Blum
When the Foo Fighters singer first met model Jordyn at a whisky bar in Hollywood he jokingly called her “my future ex-wife.”
He’ll now be hoping that doesn’t come true.
In his social media post about his infidelity, Dave wrote: “I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”
They did not appear destined to walk down the aisle at first, because Grohl admitted he’d stopped calling Jordyn, 48, after their first few dates.
Dave Grohl’s full statement
I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage.
I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.
I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.
We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.
– Dave
He said: “After three months, I had a revelation and called her back. She picked up the phone and said, ‘Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again.’”
The couple got married in 2003 at their home in Los Angeles.
They have three daughters Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, ten.
He said: “When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate.”
Jennifer Youngblood
Dave got hitched to photographer Jennifer in 1994 – the same year that Kurt Cobain’s suicide brought Nirvana to a tragic end.
The drummer was traumatised by the loss of the grunge band’s singer and fled from view for several months.
He split from Jennifer after only two years together and they finalised their divorce in 1997.
The Guardian newspaper reported that Grohl had admitted that his infidelity had led to the end of the marriage.
In 1999 during an interview with Melody Maker magazine he said: “I was 25, my wife was even younger. We weren’t ready to get married.
“I miss her a tonne, she’s the funniest goddamn weirdo you ever met in your life.”
Winona Ryder
Shortly after Dave’s marriage ended he was seen out with Stranger Things actress Winona Ryder.
Winona, 52, was spotted backstage at one of his Foo Fighters gigs and he was said to want the relationship to go on.
But it didn’t last long.
One newspaper reported in 1998 that Dave had a host of women keeping him company as the rockers toured the world, with the rough figure of 60 said to have shared his bed.
Louise Post
Back in 1997, around the time Dave was said to be seeing Winona, he was in a relationship with Veruca Salt singer Louise.
The pair recorded songs together and were said to be close.
Fans of the indie band believe that Veruca Salt’s 2000 track Disconnected is about being ditched for Winona.
The lyrics contain the line: “It’s kind of scary when your lover leaves you for a movie star.”
But Louise, 56, didn’t confirm that, saying instead: “People definitely read things into my songs. It was a private relationship, but it got so much publicity.
“I didn’t mean for it to happen. I’m friends with him now.”
Tina Basich
The next woman to catch Dave’s eye was champion snowboarder Tina Basich back in 1998.
It’s fair to say that it did not end well the following year.
In her 2003 memoir Pretty Good for a Girl, Tina wrote: “I was really in love with him. And that really changed my snowboarding.
“Having a broken leg and a broken heart in the same summer was not good.
“Breakups suck. Rockstar breakups suck the worst.”
During her recovery from the leg injury Tina, 55, heard that Dave was seeing someone else.
She constantly called him without any luck, until she claimed: “All I got was a five-minute phone call from him, after five weeks of me calling and trying to get ahold of him because I just had to know if these rumours were true.”
Jennifer Finch
Dave’s first big love is said to have been Jennifer, who was the original bassist in American rock band L7.
Jennifer, 58, who also played in Courtney Love’s group Hole, was dating him when Nirvana released their second album Nevermind in 1991.
L7, who are best known for the track Pretend We’re Dead, made a documentary of the same name in 2016.
It suggests that they did not end things on friendly terms.
In the film she’s seen saying about a photo of Grohl: “Everywhere I go, everywhere I turn, I see this f***ing face. Frankly, I’m sick of it.”
