Insecure actress Yvonne Orji has confirmed she’s still a 39-year-old virgin and won’t be giving in any time soon.
The TV star, who rose to fame as Molly Carter in the hit HBO series alongside Issa Rae, first confirmed that she was waiting until marriage to have sex.
She is believed to be single after splitting from former NFL player Emmanuel Acho in 2019 and she is still maintaining her vow of celibacy until that special person appears in her life.
When Yvonne confirmed she was, Chelsea replied with all the excitement: ‘Oh my God I love this! This is the most original guest we’ve ever had on. And what are you, 39? Oh my God. That dam is going to break one day, baby.’
Yvonne said: ‘People are like, “Oh Yvonne, you’re gonna” … Pray for him, whoever he is. There’s a lot of pent-up energy up in here with me.’
Chelsea warned her guest: ‘You’re gonna hit your sexual peak when you start having sex. So yeah, you’re gonna need a couple of men probably.’
The TV star laughed and joked: ‘Yvonne went from being a virgin to polyamory.’
Fans supported Yvonne on social media with one commenting: ‘As a 30 almost 31 virgin. I love Yvonne repping for the fact that you can be 30+ and a virgin.’
One joked: ‘I believe her, she has the glow of a woman who’s never been disappointed by a man in the bed.’
Referring to her sexually active character in Insecure, one quipped: ‘Molly would never.’
Others heaped praise on Chelsea for how she broached the topic, with one writing: ‘And this is why I love @chelseahandler She lives her free liberated life saying f**k off to society’s expectations AND also does not judge other women for living their lives how they want to! #WomenSupportingWomen Lets just all live our lives how we want to! No judgement!’
The View hosts weighed in on Yvonne’s revelation in Tuesday’s episode (November 7) with Joy Behar joking: ‘I clung to my virginity like a life raft,’ while Sunny Hostin said: ‘During our hot topics meeting, everybody seemed to have a different definition of the word virgin.’
Yvonne first revealed in 2017 that she doesn’t want to have sex until marriage, explaining to People: ‘Before any of [the fame] happened, I sat down with myself and with God and thought, when I make it, how do you want me to represent you while I’m here?
‘It was like, OK, I know why I’m here. It’s to make you proud.
‘People ask about it because they’re curious, or they may not understand. How will they ever get to understand if I don’t talk about it? I can inform your curiosity, as opposed to everyone being in the dark and just sort of creating their own narrative about it.’
As well as Insecure, which came to an end in 2022, Yvonne’s acting credits also include blockbuster comedy Vacation Friends and its sequel, horror comedy The Blackening and Night School alongside Kevin Hart.
In 2020, she was nominated for an Emmy for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for her performance in Insecure.
