‘Insane ranting!’ Boris Johnson backed up by Brexiteer Lord Sugar over Jo Cox Commons row

Lord Sugar, an outspoken Brexiteer, hit back at Paula Sheriff for first dragging the murdered Labour MP’s name into the Brexit row. She raged to the Prime Minister: “I genuinely do not seek to stifle robust tonight. “But this evening the Prime Minister has continually used pejorative language to describe an Act of Parliament passed by this House. “And I’m sure you would agree Mr Speaker that we should not resort to using offensive, dangerous or inflammatory language for legislation that we do not like.

“And we stand here Mr Speaker under the shield of our departed friend!”

She was referring to being unable to return to her home following police advice about death threats.

She said: ““With many of us in this place subject to death threats and abuse every single day!

“And let me tell the Prime Minister – they often quote his words! Surrender act. Betrayal. Traitor. And I for one am sick of it.

“We must moderate our language – and it has to come from the Prime Minister first.

“He should be absolutely ashamed of himself!”

Mr Johnson said the best way to honour Mrs Cox is to “get Brexit done”.

Some have demanded he apologise – but not Lord Sugar.

He jumped to the defence of Mr Johnson and issued a scathing tweet aimed at Ms Sheriff.

But in response to complaints by Remainer MPs getting death threats, the Prime Minister’s Brexit advisor Dominic Cummings said they should expect it for betraying the 2016 referendum vote.

He also said “tumour MPs should be excised from politics” in a savage attack a day after the Commons chaos.

He said: “A lot of people have become really, really badly disconnected from what people in the real world and what England outside central London think.

“The MPs said we will have a referendum and we will respect the result.

“Then they spent three years swerving all over the shop. It is not surprising that some people are angry about it.

“I find it very odd that these characters are complaining that people are unhappy about their behaviour now and they also say that they want a referendum.

“What do they think? How does that compute for them?”

The piece has only just resurfaced after it was dug out of his personal blog from March.

He added: “Those of you who think you can get away with promising to respect the referendum result then abandoning this promise are in the ‘pirate’ category.”

Hitting out against MPs who welcomed the Irish backstop as a “triumph” in December 2017, he added: “Remember how Bernard Jenkin wrote on ConHome that he didn’t have to ‘ruin his weekend’ reading the document to know it was another success for the natural party of government – bringing to mind very clearly how during the referendum so many of you guys were too busy shooting or skiing or chasing girls to do any actual work.

“You should be treated like a metastasising tumour and excised from the UK body politic.

“Actions have consequences.”
