Ingress: The Animation Netflix teaser shows an epic sci-fi conspiracy – Polygon

Ingress: The Animation is coming to Netflix, and the first look packs a whole lotta globe-trotting into 15 seconds.

The Ingress anime was released in Japan in 2018 and is based on the predecessor to Niantic’s Pokémon Go. The augmented-reality game Ingress invites players to find real-life locations to capture in-game portals. The overarching plot behind the game revolves around transdimensional force called Exotic Matter (XM) and two factions with opposing ideas about what to do with it.

The plot of the anime takes the XM storyline but gives some specific characters and details: A police investigator with the power to read the memories of objects he touches finds the ring of the sole survivor of a catastrophic experiment involving XM and is thrust into a worldwide conspiracy.

Netflix’s foray into anime and video games (and anime adaptations of video games!) continues to hold strong. Netflix acquired the rights to Neon Genesis Evangelion, which will start streaming in June, and will be releasing another interactive media game on April 10.

Ingress: The Animation is already on Netflix in certain countries, but its official worldwide release is April 30. It’s fitting that a game about exploring the world should be available to the whole wide world.
