A new internet widget can tell you how old you are when it comes to your mathematical skills.

Posing the question ‘are you better at maths than a school pupil?’ the widget takes the form of a quiz and was created by virtual maths tutoring service, Maths-Whizz.

The quiz has 25 questions – all of which have been selected by education experts and are relevant to key topics typically taught to children at different stages of their education.

There are five rounds of five questions on topics ranging from written numbers to geometry.

At the end of the 25 questions, the quiz will give you a ‘maths age’.

Put simply, a maths age is essentially your core mathematical knowledge put in a number. That might sound like an abstract concept but it is easy enough to understand – a maths age of 8.5, for example, means you are performing at the overall level expected of an eight-and-a-half year old.

And before you scoff at the idea of getting a score of 8.5 be warned. These questions are trickier than they look and getting a score in the low teens is actually very impressive.

Don’t get disheartened if you don’t score as high as you like, the quiz can show you where you went wrong and so you can go back and give it another go if you’re determined.

Good luck and happy counting.
