British number one Johanna Konta was beaten in straight sets by Kiki Bertens in the third round at Indian Wells, but Kyle Edmund is through after beating Chile’s Nicolas Jarry.
Konta was beaten 7-6 (12-10) 6-4 by the Dutch world number seven to set up a fourth-round tie with Spain’s Garbine Muguruza.
Edmund meanwhile needed just 51 minutes to overcome world number 86 Jarry.
He broke in just the third game to set the tone for a dominant 6-2 6-0 win.
In contrast, Konta’s encounter was much closer, with just three breaks of serve in the match.
Seventh seed Bertens won a tense tie-break to take the first set before edging the second to reach the fourth round for the first time.
The 27-year-old now faces Muguruza, who progressed after third-round opponent Serena Williams retired.
Edmund off the mark
Edmund, seeded 22, beat Russia’s Andrey Rublev in the final of the Oracle Challenger Series at Indian Wells last week having entered the second-tier event as he completed a comeback from a knee injury.
However, his victory against Jarry was his first tour-level success of 2019.
The Briton, who received a first-round bye, will face Moldova’s Radu Albot on Tuesday after he beat Italy’s Fabio Fognini 6-0 7-6 (7-4).

There is much to admire in the way Konta is playing in the early stages of the season.
Her serve is becoming a trusty friend once again, and she is trying to add more variety to her game.
The British number one secured a first top-10 win for 18 months against Sloane Stephens at the start of the year, and has since come close to repeating the trick against Muguruza at the Australian Open, and then again in this third-round match.
But she did make some frustrating errors when seemingly in control of points, and was not quite as reliable as Bertens when first the tie-break, and then the second set, were on the line.
