Incredible amount late Absolutely Fabulous legend June Whitfield left in her will

Legendary actress Dame June Whitfield left more than £6million in her will, it has been reported.

The former Absolutely Fabulous star, whose stellar career spanned seven decades, died “peacefully” aged 93 at the end of last year.

The generous TV great’s £6.2m estate will be split between her family and charities.

Her friends won’t miss out – she set aside £5,000 to treat them to “a celebration party in her honour,” the The Sun claim.

Probate documents record that the former Carry On and Steptoe and Son actress wanted to be remembered “with a smile”.

Most goes to daughter Suzy Aitchison, while son-in-law Terry Quinn has been given the keys to her stunning home in Wimbledon, south west London.

June was adored by Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley

A number of bequests to her favourite charities were made, with one said to include a gift to the Actors Benevolent Fund.

Tributes poured in following her death in December.

Dame June was perhaps best known later in her career for playing the long suffering mother of Edina Monsoon in Ab Fab for five series of the hit sitcom. She also returned for the 2016 film.

In a statement to the Press Association, Jennifer Saunders said: “It’s so tremendously sad to lose June. I will always be grateful that she agreed to be in Ab Fab and even more grateful that she became a dear friend.

Her character certainly suffered on screen

“She lived and worked with an extraordinary grace . Everything June did was perfectly measured. She was so loved and I will miss her hugely.”

Joanna Lumley, who played Edina’s heavy-drinking and promiscuous pal Patsy Stone, said she was “heartbroken” by her death.

Julia Sawalha, her tortured on-screen granddaughter Saffy, said: “Thank you Dame June Whitfield, for teaching me my craft with such grace and dignity.

The veteran kept acting until 2016

“I always wanted you to know how in awe of you I was, however, you were always far too humble to accept my adoration.

“You were a great source of inspiration to me. Bye-bye Gran.”

After losing her husband Tim Aitchison in 2001, she continued to live alone for 16 years before moving into a care home in 2017.

“Now I have friends where I live and I like it. They’re fun,” she told The Mirror last year. “I don’t have to worry about things like the roof or the plumber any more.”
