Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams has revealed that Manchester United made a move to sign him this summer.
The 25-year-old scored 12 goals in La Liga last season and was linked with a move to United as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked to bolster his attacking options.
But Williams ended up staying with Bilbao and signed a nine-year contract with the club in August.
‘I had contact from Manchester United but I cannot tell you who it was,’ Williams told Cadena SER.
‘My number one option has always been to stay at Athletic and to retire here.
‘Joining Real Sociedad? No, I could never go there. 100 per cent.’
Williams now has a release clause of €135 million (£119.5m) in his contract with Bilbao.
