Loose Women panellist Katie Piper, 38, has informed her followers that she had to have an emergency operation after her husband, Richard, noticed a hole in her eye. As her condition worsened, Katie says she was in “extreme pain” and had to be rushed into hospital.
She wrote on Twitter: “Emergency Operation for me! On Saturday my husband noticed a small black circle in my blind eye. I was excited thinking I had a pupil again, but by Sunday my left eye was extremely painful and couldn’t tolerate light.
“I patched it up and put it down to old injuries. I’m used to being in some level of discomfort and I went to work. By Sunday night I felt nausea and in extreme pain.”
Katie quickly got in touch with her eye specialist, Sheraz Daya, and he confirmed that a hole had formed in her eye.
She continued: “Unfortunately he confirmed the black circle was a hole in my eye and the eye had perforated. This had always been a fear that it would happen.”
The following day, Dr Daya was able to “source tissue” for Katie and gave her an emergency operation.
Sharing photographs of herself with a large bandage covering her eye, Katie confirmed that the operation had gone well and she thanked the team for their “amazing” help.
She concluded: “I cannot thank him and his team enough, their knowledge and expertise but also how kind and caring they all are.
“There may be some evil people in this world but there are also some pretty incredible people doing amazing things for people on a daily basis.”
