Ian Wright says he’s ‘delighted’ for Bukayo Saka after the youngster capped off a ‘fantastic week’ for Arsenal with an impressive individual display in the side’s 2-0 victory over Wolves.
Saka has been one of the few success stories of Arsenal’s season and the versatile 18-year-old further enhanced his reputation with an exquisite half-volley past Rui Patricio to break the deadlock at Molineux.
Alexandre Lacazette doubled the visitors lead with four minutes remaining of normal time and Mikel Arteta’s men held on for the win which saw them leapfrog Sheffield United into seventh place in the Premier League table.
Saka’s strike came just three days after he put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at the Emirates and club legend Wright sang the teenager’s praises as he discussed his performance on Match of the Day.
‘I’m delighted for him,’ the former Arsenal and England striker said.
‘It’s been a fantastic week for Arsenal: Saka signing, [Gabriel] Martinelli signing and good talks with [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang.
‘The way we’re playing is very encouraging. The finish was beautifully guided, it was fantastic.
‘It gets a deflection but he just guides it in, he doesn’t slash at it. Nice smooth technique and put it in the goal.
‘It’s just brilliant to see.’
Saka said he would remember the last few days for the rest of his life after he celebrated his new deal with Arsenal’s opener at Wolves.
‘It has been such a great week, signing my contract and then getting my first Premier League goal,’ England Under-19 international told BBC Sport.
‘And it wasn’t a bad goal either so I’m very happy.
‘I have to stay humble and keep my feet on the ground to keep learning.
‘It’s important for us to have experience and world-class players around to advise us.
‘It was tough for us today but we gave our all and that is what got us over the line.’
