I'm A Celeb's Roman Kemp says his 'offensive tweets' taught fans a lesson

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is well underway, and new recruit Roman Kemp is one of the firm favourites to win.

Just days before his jungle debut, the 26-year-old was forced to apologise for past tweets that had been branded as “offensive”.

Last week, the radio personality confessed he was “appalled and ashamed” of certain historic social media posts he’d written.

Speaking exclusively with Daily Star Online, the radio DJ took responsibility for the mishap and said he’d learned from the experience.

The I’m A Celeb star, who is the son of famous parents Martin and Shirley Kemp, suggested his apology helped fans to reflect on their own online behaviour.

He said: “You know, I’ve had a lot of people reach out to me after saying, ‘You know what, you putting out that video has made me go back and I’ve realised, ‘You know, maybe that could hurt someone or someone could see that in the wrong way,’ so I’ve just gotten rid of it because I think it’s the best to do.”

Roman went on: “I think that’s a fantastic thing and I think that a lot of parents have got back to me about their kids and what they go through at school and I think that I just wanted to be able to say my bit on something that was on my mind. I think I did that.

Roman Kemp apologised for offensive social media posts last week

“I mentioned it in the video, I’ve got people that have been through stuff recently and it did encourage me to look back and I think what I meant in there was, I just don’t want anything that I’m leaving behind for future generations to be in negativity.”

Before adding: “And so I want to be able to use the platform that I have to have a positive outlook on things and I think that’s the most important thing for me. You know, because my generation and the generations to come, everything’s on the Internet.”

The ITV star also opened up about his famous godfather, Wham! legend George Michael, who tragically died back in 2016.

Roman found it normal growing up with the A-list star in his life and admitted he was “privileged” to know him.

He said: “His legacy and everything he left behind is amazing. The only memories I have of George is amazing.

“And someone that is a dear part of my family and so if someone wants to ask me something, it’s never negative or anything like that, it’s how much love I have for this guy and how much love he had for everyone around him.”
