I'm a Celeb's Gillian McKeith says BushTucker Trials have given her PTSD

One of the most memorable contestants to ever appear on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Is Gillian McKeith.

You Are What You Eat’s Gillian, 60, appeared on the programme in 2010 – and certainly made her mark.

The mum-of-two regularly uttered the words I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! during the terrifying trials, before fainting on-air after being voted to do the notorious live trial.

Gillian spoke to Daily Star Online about which trial affected her the most, and how she is still reminded of the jungle every day.

She revealed: “When I look back at the jungle, it’s like the stuff of nightmares. It was like being in a horror movie, to be honest.

“And I’m not certain I’ve fully recovered.”

She continued: “I do laugh about it. But the funny thing is though, every day since I left the jungle, to the present day, I’m reminded of the jungle constantly – by strangers, by taxi drivers – everywhere I go, as if it was yesterday.”

Gillian recalls the worst part of the jungle was the “insects” and the “spiders” and she remembers looking at the ground and “it was all just crawling”.

She added: “There were massive crawling spiders in the dunny and it was enough to make you not want to not go and be constipated.”

Gillian’s worst trial was the one where she was locked underground with rats.

She recalled: “There were so many trials and I was always out doing them, so it was a bit of a blur, and they were all horrible – horrid, horrid horrid.

“There wasn’t a single trial I enjoyed, not even one.”

Gillian continued: “I honestly think I’m suffering from PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder).

“The one trial that sticks out more than the others is the one where I was underground, locked up in chains with rats.

“That has completely done me in, that is the worst.”

Gillian revealed the “horrendous” rats trial has had a knock-on effect in her daily life today.

She divulged: “Ever since [the rat trial], I can’t really go into small spaces and I’ve developed a new phobia.

“I feel really claustrophobic. So if you said to me, ‘Let’s get in this lift,’ but I felt the lift was too small, I’d say ‘Let’s take the stairs’.”

“Which is good as it helps me get fitter,” she jokingly added.

“But in all seriousness, when I go into small bathrooms now, I can’t lock the doors as I’m worried I can’t get out and I know it’s connected to that experience [in the jungle].

“Because ahead of my time on there, claustrophobia was the one fear I didn’t have,” Gillian laughed.

Sharing her thoughts on this year’s I’m a Celebrity 2019 lineup, Gillian feels Caitlyn Jenner, 70, will fare well in the trials because of the Olympian medal winner’s “athletic prowess” and the fact she appeared on the US version of I’m a Celebrity in 2003.

Nutritionist Gillian, feels that “vegans” and “mega carnivores” will struggle in the jungle the most due to the limited food rations.
