I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! could remain in the UK next year after the smash-hit series in Wales.

The series, which has been filmed in New South Wales, Australia, since 2002, was moved to Gwrych Castle in Wales for 2020 due to travelling restrictions.

Launching with a record-breaking 12million viewers, fans have tuned in as Ant and Dec put the celebs through their paces, with campmates battling the elements and a host of creepy crawlies in order to get food.

But ahead of tonight’s finale, showrunner Richard Cowles has claimed that the show could remain in its new location for at least another year.

Speaking to Broadcast Now, he said: ‘Australia has been I’m A Celebrity’s natural home and the Welsh version was born out of necessity rather than choice, but we’ve learned a lot and so maybe there is a UK incarnation of the show.

He said: ‘We will look at what being in Wales means for the format going forward. Is it something we would want to do again, or do we want to return to Australia?’

‘It has been a different [type of show] because the environment is different,’ Cowles added.

‘But it is absolutely as good as ever in terms of what audiences see on screen.’

The success of the new location could also prove lucrative for the production team, with international broadcasters more interested in the castle show than the far more expensive Australian version.

I’m A Celebrity’s Welsh stay has been not just a hit with fans, but the economy of the local area, which is reported to have received a £1million injection thanks to the team on the ground.

Tonight, Ant and Dec are set to crown the first ever King or Queen of the Castle, with Giovanna Fletcher, Jordan North, and Vernon Kay all in with a chance of taking home the title.

This year is shaping up to be one of the tightest competitions ever – with Jordan and Giovanna have equal odds of 11/10 – so both have an implied 47.6% chance of winning the competition.

Vote lines are now open on the app,  with five votes for free for you to support your favourite campmate.

Lines will close during the course of tonight’s show with the winner revealed live from the castle.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! airs tonight at 9pm on ITV.
