Illinois Lawmakers want to ban GTA and other violent VideoGames – RockstarINTEL

Carjackings in Chicago, Illinois, A State Rep called Marcus Evans wants to ban the sale and rentals of Violent Videogames altogether.

Firstly reported by Chicago Sun-Times, A State Rep for Illinois, Marcus Evans Jr, has proposed a bill to ban violent videogames, amending the Illinois 2012 law that prohibits the rental and sale of some Videogames to Minors, any game which includes ‘Psychological harm.’ They also include ‘Motor Vehicle Theft in a Videogames which ahs either a Driver or a Passenger is present.’

Early Walker, some guy who started an Operation to bring down the number of Carjackings that were occurring at Gas Stations and Shopping Centres has defended Marcus Evans. Walker has also reached out to multiple State Legislators to ban Videogames such as Grand Theft Auto as he claims he’s noticed similarities in Local Incidents and actions players make in Grand Theft Auto.

Early Walker has said about the similarities ‘When you compare the two, you see harsh similarities as it relates to these carjackings.”

The Bill also modify the definition of ‘Violent Videogame.’ The definition will mean Video games that “allows a user or player to control a character within the video game that is encouraged to perpetuate human-on-human violence in which the player kills or otherwise causes serious physical or psychological harm to another human or an animal.’ These will now be classed as Violent.

The Electronic Software Association made a Statement to IGN after this bill was proposed, saying

While our industry understands and shares the concerns about what has been happening in Chicago, there simply is no evidence of a link between interactive entertainment and real-world violence. We believe the solution to this complex problem resides in examining thoroughly the actual factors that drive such behaviours rather than erroneously ascribing blame to videogames based solely upon speculation.”
