Ikea is giving away real 5ft Christmas trees for free

LAST minute Christmas shoppers can pick up a 5ft real fir tree for free from Ikea.

Customers have spotted that the flat-pack furniture store is giving away the last of it’s stock to anyone that hasn’t got one.

The Swedish retailer had been running a festive deal on the trees, which saw shoppers pick one up for just £9.

Customers would pay £29 upfront for the fir before being given a £20 Ikea voucher in return.

The offer was supposed to be running between November 21 until December 24 but one eagle-eyed shopper saw that her local store was giving the trees away for free.

She snapped a photo of the sign that was put up in front of a row of Christmas trees in her local store in Loanhead, Scotland.

It read: “All Christmas trees free to a good home! Please help yourself. Merry Christmas, love Ikea xxx”.

The shopper posted it in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group where others couldn’t believe the offer either.

Since being uploaded to the group yesterday, the post has received over 1,400 likes and hundreds of comments.

But some customers have also said that the deal wasn’t available in their store as it had already sold out of trees.

We’ve asked Ikea for more details on the sale but for now we reckon it’s safe to say that the deal is part of a clearance sale, which means that once stock is gone it won’t be replaced.

Customers looking to get their hands on the freebie probably won’t want to hang around or risk missing out.

Many high street retailers have launched their Boxing Day sales early this year with some slashing prices by up to 72 per cent.

So far, the early sales haven’t been as good as they were last year, with some retailers slashing prices by up to 80 per cent.

Already shoppers have been seizing the opportunity to stock up for Christmas next year, including deals on advent calendars.

Tesco has dropped prices from £8 to £1.50 – while one shopper bagged a £70 Nivea calendar for £10 in the Morrisons sale.

Asda has slashed the price of 6ft artificial Christmas trees in half to just £12.50.

But the best deals could be about to drop in January. Last year, bargain hunters could pick up an £80 artificial tree for 10p at Wilko.
