THQ Nordic is mulling over whether or not it should remake the fantasy RPG Gothic and to help it decide, it’s released a free playable teaser to give you a taster.
That said, it’s not available for just anyone. The demo’s only downloadable for those who already have a Gothic game or any other title from developer Piranha Bytes in their Steam libraries, even though PB isn’t involved in the remake.
“This is not a full game. Its [sic] a playable teaser version to a potential approach for a new Gothic game. Nothing is set in stone”, THQ Nordic says in the game description on Steam (thanks, Engadget). “So your feedback is essential to turn Gothic into a modern game.
“Therefore, and to reward your loyalty, Gothic – Playable Teaser is totally free for all fans who already have any of the titles in the Gothic saga or developed by Piranha Bytes!”
Though only a couple of hours long, the developer hopes it’ll be enough to convince you to nag Nordic for a full version. Fan feedback to date has been mixed, though, varying from “dear THQ, please don’t follow this path” and “this is NOT a Gothic game” to “has potential but lacks soul” and “YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES”. Make of that what you will.
