Idris Elba has been informed by a doctor that he’ll be ‘immune’ from coronavirus for a certain period of time once he leaves quarantine.
The Luther actor has been self-isolating with his wife Sabrina Elba since testing positive for coronavirus earlier in March.
Sharing an update with his Twitter followers on Wednesday (25 March), Idris revealed: ‘Hoping everyone is coping with this $@@!! Currently still quarantine..
‘Sab and I still feel ok so far with no changes. Dr told us that after quarantine we will be immune for a certain time since our antibodies fought this.’
He added: ‘At some point we’d like to go home to London. Bsafe.’
It’s believed the married couple are self-isolating in North America, possibly Canada where Sabrina is originally from.
Idris, 47, then responded to a follower who asked why immunity only lasts a short while: ‘Apparently. Covid 19 might mutate as our bodies build up defences against it.’
Another follower asked if the British actor had experienced symptoms, to which he stated: ‘No not really. .. the day I got tested I had body aches and a headache.’
When announcing his Covid-19 diagnosis, Idris said he had experienced no symptoms but was tested due to being exposed to someone else with the disease.
Idris also revealed that he is currently on day 13 of self-isolation, so will likely be given permission to fly home in the next week or two.
The Wire actor has since been forced to dispel false rumours about his condition.
Over the weekend, Idris slammed claims he had been paid to say he had coronavirus.
‘It shouldn’t be about whether the rich or poor gets it. Everyone should be able to get a test, for sure. I think the negativity around test-shaming is counterproductive. I don’t see what people get out of that,’ he said during an Instagram live on Sunday.
‘And the idea that someone like myself is going to be paid to say I have coronavirus. That’s absolute bulls***! Such stupidness. And people want to spread that like it’s news. It’s stupid. It’s the quickest way to get people sick. It’s no benefit to me and Sabrina saying that we got it and we ain’t got it. I don’t understand the logic of that.’
