IDRIS Elba has hit out at a bizarre theory that celebrities have been paid to say they have coronavirus, calling it “bulls***”.

Idris Elba railed against the ‘stupidness’ of claiming he was paid to say he had coronavirus

He said: “This idea that someone like myself is gonna be paid to say I’ve got coronavirus? That’s absolute bulls***.

“Such stupidness. People wanna spread that as if it’s news. That’s stupid.

“It’s the quickest way to get people sick because there’s no benefit to me and Sabrina sitting here saying we’ve got it if we ain’t got it. I don’t even understand the logic of that.”

It is not clear why celebrities would be paid to say they had coronavirus, but the theory has been advanced by the likes of rapper Cardi B.

Idris, who found fame in The Wire and Luther, also used the video to slam criticism celebrities have received for having being tested for coronavirus.

Many front-line staff in the UK are currently unable to know whether they have the disease or not because of a lack of testing kits.

But Idris insisted: “I think the debate about rich and poor and who’s getting it and who’s not, I think, is not a healthy debate.

“It’s like, I got a test but I also got Covid. Does that make me preferential? I don’t understand that.”

He added: “This isn’t a movie. I’m not an actor right now. I’m just a human being and I just happen to be in the public eye.

“So I want people to understand that this is very real.

“I don’t feel like I’m privileged because I got a test because I actually contracted it.”

Idris has been busy refusing theories circulating about him online ever seen he revealed he had tested positive for coronavirus.

Last week the star denied he was in a “critical condition” after a hoax video claimed the star was in intensive care following his coronavirus diagnosis.

On Sunday, 30-year-old Sabrina revealed she had also tested positive for the disease after self-isolating alongside the star in New Mexico, USA.

She insisted that she turned down the option of keeping away from Idris while he was infectious, saying: “I wanted to be with him”.
