“It’s like an Argentinian b-movie crossed with The Chart Show”

Following on from lead single ‘Dream Variations’, this is the second taster from their upcoming eighth album ‘Interview Music‘ – adding yet more psychedelic and experimental tones to their trademark rock sound.
“‘Interview Music’ was becoming quite diverse while we were writing it, so when we started working with our old producer Dave Eringa, we thought we’d try and write some songs that were a bit closer to what we’d done in the past: big distortion pedals and anthemic choruses,” frontman Roddy Woomble told NME. “‘Same Things Twice’ turned out to be a nice mix. The verse is in keeping with the rest of the album in that it’s quite strange in terms of the words and delivery, while the chorus comes together into a big ‘90s warm hug.”
He continued: “The lyrics are pretty random. I’m shouting out loads of sloganeering and words and phrases that I thought up at the moment I was singing them. Then the chorus has a pretty optimistic message. It’s the usual celebration of vagueness.”
As for the fittingly surreal video, Woomble said: “Our bassist Andrew Mitchell described it as ‘an Argentinian B-movie crossed with The Chart Show‘. The Boykov Brothers, they’re a few friends of mine, and they’ve been making videos for a while. We wanted to do something a little bit different for the videos for ‘Interview Music’, so ‘Dream Variations’ was something of a psychedelic montage and for this one we decided to put me in.

The band release ‘Interview Music’ on April 5, followed by a UK tour.
“It’s going to be a big-sounding six-piece band,” said Woomble of what to expect from the shows. “We’ve been going through all the old records to try and find some songs from our whole career. I’m excited about it, especially London Forum and Glasgow Barrowlands.”
So can we expect deep cuts and rarities?
“Yeah, there will be a lot of that,” replied Woomble. “Having Allan [Stewart] on guitar means that we can play a lot more different styles. We can play the more rocky stuff as well as the more ambient stuff of the new album. We’ll be playing a lot of ‘Interview Music’, but obviously we’ll be focussing on ‘100 Broken Windows’ and ‘Remote Part’ too because those albums mean so much to people.”
