Ian Wright's unflattering nickname could come back to haunt him during I'm a Celebrity

Ian Wright’s old Super Sub nickname could come back to haunt him during his appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Here!

Wright got that nickname during his time Crystal Palace, where he scored a number of goals off the bench which turned him into a golden substitute at Selhurst Park.

However, if one of his fellow contestants brings it up then that would be unjustified as the footballer-turned-pundit has achieved much more than that given his status as an Arsenal legend.

The former striker joined the Gunners in 1991 where he netted a staggering 149 goals in 250 appearances, which made him the club’s all-time top goalscorer before he was overtaken by Thierry Henry.

After a glittering career, that saw him winning the 1998 Double with Arsenal and amassing 33 caps for England, the 56-year-old is now a regular TV pundit.

The former Celtic star has now decided to try something new as he has been cast for this year’s I’m a Celebrity line-up.

Wright will be joined by other athletes like ex-Wasps and Northampton Saints star James Haskell and former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner.

Other confirmed stars include Roman Kemp, Jacqueline Jossa, Nadine Coyle, Andrew Maxwell, Kate Garraway, Myles Stephenson and Adele Roberts.

Wright has reportedly signed a six-figure deal to join the show after being convinced by his former manager at West Ham Harry Redknapp, who won last season.

The Arsenal hero said: “I have been asked to do it every year and every time, I have always thought I am definitely not doing that because there was more and more jeopardy involved.

“But I think the last series was one of the best I have seen in respect of camaraderie.

“Harry and I play golf together and we spoke about it.

“He had a really great time, it was a fantastic thing for him to do and he is still talking about it to this day!

“Now it does appeal to me at this particular time.

“I like the vibe, it is a really cool show and I am really intrigued.”
