Ian Wright wife: How ‘knight in shining armour’ swept first wife off her feet

Ian Wright is one of 10 celebrities experiencing life in the Australian jungle as they take part in I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! Two new campmates will join them tonight, and all will take on Bushtucker Trials across the next few weeks in the hopes of being crowned the Jungle King or Queen.

Ian Wright, 56, is known for his footballing career and now regularly appears on Match of the Day and Match of the Day 2, as well as co-hosting BBC Radio 5live Sport on a Monday evening alongside Mark Chapman.

He also is on TV every Tuesday on The Debate on Sky Sports’ Premier League channel.

Away from football, Ian has a total of eight children from previous relationships and his first marriage.

In his 2016 memoir called A Life In Football: My Autobiography, the 56-year-old sportsman opened up about his family and marriage.

In an extract published by The Sun, the former Crystal Palace and Arsenal player wrote: “I’ve got eight kids with four women. Two I married, two I didn’t.

“Sharon [Philips] is mum to my eldest boys, Shaun and Bradley Wright-Phillips. My third son is Brett.

“Then Deborah [Wright] and I got married in 1993 and we have a son, Stacey, and a daughter, Bobbi.

“My daughter Coco was born in 2006 and I support her but play no other part in her or her mother’s life.

“He was playing for Second Division Crystal Palace then, but was far from rich – he still lived with his mum.

“We married four years later and bought our first house in Warlingham, Surrey. It was a great time.

“Ian was then playing for Arsenal, the money was good and when Stacey was born in 1994, I happily gave up my job as a personal banker to look after him.”

Debbie and Ian also have a daughter, Bobbi, who was born in 1999.

However, his first marriage was not to be, with the pair splitting in 2004 after nine years together.

Ian wrote in his biography: “I got caught up in all of that and cheated on my first wife, Debbie, which destroyed my marriage. That was a really horrible period.”

He said despite his successful career on the pitch, he “hated” himself but was “so caught up in that moment” and didn’t stop it.

The Match of The Day host added: “If there’s ever been a time in my life I wish I could change, that would be it.”

I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here is on ITV1 tonight at 9pm.
