Ian Wright banned from driving for six months after doing 69mph in 40 zone


MATCH of the Day pundit Ian Wright has been banned from driving for six months.

The ex-Arsenal footballer, 57, was caught doing 69mph in a 40 zone on his Triumph motorbike.

He admitted speeding at a hearing before magistrates. As well as a driving ban he was fined £1,000.

The former England international told pals he accepted the consequences of his actions after being caught on several occasions.

A friend said: “Ian was caught speeding on his motorbike a few times and held his hands up.

“He isn’t proud of his actions and hasn’t contested the ban. Ian went to court without a legal representative and accepted the consequences.

“He’s been using a pedal bike to get around and said he’d be more considerate in future.

“Obviously it’s a bit embarrassing for him but he made a mistake and now he is paying for it.”

Centre forward Wright became a household name during his seven-year career at Arsenal between 1991 and 1998, and prior to that during his six years at Crystal Palace.

He played for England 33 times and scored nine goals.

The respected pundit appeared on I’m A Celebrity in 2019, when he was the fifth star to be voted off.

He appeared at Lavender Hill magistrates’ court in South West London after being caught on August 4 last year in Twickenham
