Ian Holloway reveals excitement at player he ‘can see’ playing for Chelsea

Abraham came through the youth academy at Chelsea after being at the club since under-8 level.

However, he has made just two career appearances for the Blues since making his professional debut in May 2016.

The striker has spent the last three seasons out on loan, enjoying great success in the Championship in two of those campaigns with Bristol City and Aston Villa.

Abraham’s solitary year in the Premier League came in the middle of that period, where he scored just five goals in 31 league outings for Swansea.

But Holloway has seen enough of the 21-year-old to believe he now has what it takes to put his stamp on the Chelsea first team.

The former QPR boss believes new Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard will put his faith in Abraham for the upcoming campaign.

Abraham was on the Villa side that beat Lampard’s Derby County in the Championship play-off final in May.

“I’m so excited because I can see Tammy Abraham playing for Chelsea,” Holloway told talkSPORT.

“I was fuming the other day when he was subbed for the England Under-21s

“OK, when he went to Swansea it didn’t work for him because it was his first season in the Premier League, but he’s ready now.

“The boy is an immense talent.

“He was the second-highest goalscorer in the Championship last season and he’s the record goalscorer in their youth set-up.

“So I’m delighted. I think he’s ready for it and it’s got to happen now.

“Mason Mount will love the fact Frank trusts him as well.”
